Why Build a Lynching Memorial?

09.12.17

EJI’s national memorial to victims of lynching and museum on the legacy of slavery and racial inequality are on schedule to open at a time when the need to confront America’s history of racial injustice is more urgent than ever. Next month, we plan to announce an opening date for the two sites.

With help from legendary gospel group The Fairfield Four, this short video explains why we are creating a memorial to acknowledge the racial terror that followed enslavement in America and forced millions of Black people to flee the South.

We hope you’ll share this video on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube and make plans to visit our memorial and museum next spring.
