We are celebrating this Juneteenth with free admission to the Legacy Sites and a concert with renowned jazz artists Nate Smith and Lizz Wright on Friday, June 19.

You’re invited to join us at the Legacy Sites in downtown Montgomery on June 19 between 9 am and 6 pm. No ticket is required for admission. We hope you will visit the Legacy Museum, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, Freedom Monument Sculpture Park, and newly opened Montgomery Square to experience American history in honor of Juneteenth.

We’re excited to announce what promises to be an unforgettable musical event on June 19 at 7:30 pm. Virtuosic drummer Nate Smith and acclaimed vocalist and songwriter Lizz Wright come together for a one-night-only jazz concert at EJI’s Peace and Justice Memorial Center.

The Hype Magazine calls Grammy Award-winning Nate Smith a “global touring powerhouse and an accomplished recording artist.” The New York Times has described Lizz Wright as “an awesome talent.”

“We are once again thrilled to open up our sites for free in celebration of Juneteenth,” said EJI Executive Director Bryan Stevenson. “With new exhibits and our recently opened Montgomery Square, there will be much to experience at the Legacy Sites. I’m also thrilled that we can bring to Montgomery two towering and phenomenally talented artists, Nate Smith and Lizz Wright, to perform at our Juneteenth concert.”

EJI’s annual Juneteenth event has included past performances by Wynton Marsalis, Anthony McGill, Yolanda Adams, Donald Lawrence and Company, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Terence Blanchard, Esperanza Spalding, Lizz Wright, Samara Joy, Cory Henry, and the Jason Max Ferdinand Singers.

As part of our Art and Justice programming, we have brought many celebrated artists and creatives to Montgomery. Our latest event featured the legendary Yo-Yo Ma and Branford Marsalis. These performances and events have enhanced the Legacy Sites and EJI’s work for justice by creating a new soundtrack for truth telling.
