Hundreds Attend Just Mercy Screening in Montgomery

12.22.19

Hundreds of Montgomery residents packed local screenings last Friday of the new Warner Brothers feature film, Just Mercy.

Just Mercy is a powerful true story about EJI, the people we represent, and the importance of confronting injustice. Based on the bestselling memoir by EJI director Bryan Stevenson, Just Mercy presents the unforgettable story of Bryan Stevenson (Michael B. Jordan) and the case of Walter McMillian (Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx), who was convicted and sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit.

Just Mercy has won several awards at film festivals and is slated to receive the National Board of Review Freedom of Expression Award in January. Outstanding performances by Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, Brie Larson, Rob Morgan, Karan Kendrick, Tim Blake Nelson, and O’Shea Jackson Jr. have been widely acclaimed.

Some scenes in the movie were shot in Montgomery and feature local landmarks. EJI arranged the early screenings for folks in Montgomery as an expression of gratitude to the many people in this community who supported the making of the film.

Just Mercy will be released nationwide on January 10, 2020.
