We are excited to announce the new Elevation Convening Center and Hotel, a transformative space for reflection, education, and connection in downtown Montgomery, Alabama. Set to partially open next spring, Elevation will be fully open in Fall 2025.
Conceptualized by EJI executive director Bryan Stevenson and designed to complement our Legacy Sites, Elevation will extend the journey of learning and understanding the history of our nation while providing visitors with a serene environment to decompress and engage meaningfully with often overlooked narratives.
At Elevation, guests will be immersed in thoughtfully curated spaces that blend historical narrative, art, and architecture. The property’s amenities will enhance its mission by offering comfort, cultural enrichment, and opportunities for dialogue.
The Convening Center will include a variety of meeting spaces, including classrooms, boardrooms, and a ballroom that can host 200 people. Enhanced digital tools and audiovisual capabilities will support educational, organizational, and corporate gatherings at the Legacy Sites.
Overnight accommodations will be available in the 99-room hotel, allowing guests and groups visiting the Legacy Sites to extend their experience. There will be interconnected options for families and tranquil gathering areas for reflection.
A library with digital learning kiosks, a theater, and art displays as well as reflection spaces will allow visitors to deepen their investigation and evaluation of the history experienced at our sites.
AYA Restaurant will offer a soulful dining experience inspired by the African symbol of endurance and resourcefulness. Renowned Chef Aneesha Hargrave will create menus that celebrate Southern cuisine.
A new park and exhibit will honor the participants of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery March who walked just past Elevation to the State Capitol in downtown Montgomery in pursuit of voting rights.
A historic transformation, Elevation was originally constructed as the Hilltop Arms Apartments in 1950. EJI has partnered with the talented architect Hilari Jones, Vice President and Studio Leader of HKS Architects, to reimagine the building as a modern convening space. EJI has selected Ithaka Hospitality Partners to manage the property.
