03.01.09

On February 26, 2009, the Alabama Supreme Court scheduled Jack Trawick to be executed by lethal injection on June 11, 2009. This is the sixth execution date the court has scheduled for this year.

The Alabama Supreme Court in December 2008 scheduled five executions for the first five months of 2009. James Callahan was executed in January, and Danny Bradley was executed in February.

The State of Alabama has not executed as many as five people in a single year since the late 1940s.

Alabama ranks second in the nation behind Texas for executions in 2009. Only seven states in the country have carried out any executions this year, and only Alabama and Texas have executed more than one person.
