Death Penalty States Grapple With High Cost of Capital Cases

The capital trial of Brian Nichols, accused of shooting and killing a judge, a court reporter, a sheriff’s deputy and a federal agent in an Atlanta, Georgia courthouse has brought to the forefront an issue more and more states are being forced to address: the rising cost of an adequate defense in death-penalty cases.
