In the past year, we have won relief for dozens of people condemned to death by execution, children who were sentenced to die in prison, and people who were unfairly sentenced or convicted. We won a hard-fought victory to reform abusive prison conditions and celebrated the abolition of judicial override in Alabama. We continued to challenge extreme sentences for people who are not a threat to public safety, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to advance criminal justice reform.
We are thrilled about the grand opening of our Legacy Museum: From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery on April 26, 2018. We hope you will join us for several days of events celebrating these two new institutions that we hope will deepen and amplify the national conversation about racial justice in America.
Our innovative public education campaigns – including an interactive online experience on lynching in America, a powerful mutl-media museum exhibit, and a recording by a Grammy-nominated artist – have reached millions of people worldwide, and thousands have engaged with us directly in Community Remembrance events to confront America’s history of racial injustice.
