EJI is seeking applicants for a salaried, full-time, with benefits, Research Fellow role for individuals with a strong background in historical research and writing.

About the Position

This position will enable a talented and committed professional or college graduate to contribute to EJI’s mission by performing a variety of research and writing tasks across EJI program areas.

The Research Fellow will work with the Executive Director and other EJI staff, including senior researchers and attorneys, to assist with projects related to EJI’s narrative and historical work. The position may involve the following:

  • conducting historical and archival research to support EJI’s education projects, exhibits, and cultural sites (EJI’s Legacy Museum, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice, and Freedom Memorial Sculpture Park), narrative report projects, EJI’s Community Remembrance Project, and legal work
  • completing research projects for EJI’s website and daily historical calendar
  • gathering and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data related to EJI’s program areas
  • drafting, revising, fact-checking, and publishing reports and other content
  • addressing research questions from staff, community members, and visitors to the Legacy Sites and
  • evaluating and researching intake related to EJI’s efforts to identify and commemorate the victims of racial terror lynchings.

The ideal Research Fellow has a strong background in research and writing and is service-driven, self-motivated, compassionate, inquisitive, reflective, highly organized, attentive to detail, and committed to EJI’s goals and mission.

Qualifications include the ability to communicate and work with people who have a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, a commitment to EJI and its clients and projects, and the ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Written content created by the Research Fellow must be reliable and well-supported.

Substantive experience including research during graduate-level education, journalism, data analysis, familiarity with historical research methods and use of primary sources, or related experience will be relevant and considered. An advanced degree (MA, PhD) is preferred but not required.
