EJI's fiscal year ended on September 30, 2017. Our 2017 operating budget was $6.2 million dollars. As the report below indicates we spent $6.5 million in fiscal year 2017. We did far more community education work in 2017 than we had planned and also increased education materials for our racial justice work, specifically information on lynching in America which created increased costs for our publication budget. Although we exceeded our budget by over $300,000, we ended up with operational revenue for the year of $7.2 million dollars which allowed us to cover our increased expenses for the year. Because we expect expenses to increase dramatically in the coming year as we open our new racial justice sites and expand our criminal justice work, our 2018 budget is $10.7 million dollars. We greatly appreciate your support as we expand our efforts to end mass incarceration and excessive punishment in America and our work to confront racial and economic injustice.
